A Brisbane Same Day Courier from ****** was mauled by a Bull Terrier after opening the gate to deliver the Same Day Express Parcel.

Mr Strautenburg an experienced Same Day Express Courier was entering the front yard gate when the dog attacked him and caused lacerations to 80% of his body arms and legs - mainly the torso and back and behind.

The owner of the Dog 82 Year Old Mrs Dunlop said the Brisbane Same Day Courier Disturbed "Bluebell" her Dog while he was trying to drink his water in peace and quiet.

Mr Strautenburg was immediately taken to hospital and received 312 stitches and his employer has given Mr Strautenburg a bravery award and Express courier of the year award.

Figures provided by councils show more than 4,400 attacks on people and animals have been recorded in the past two years, despite restrictions or bans on some aggressive breeds.

Emergency pediatrician from the Mater Children's Hospital Ruth Barker said it was estimated about 3000 patients showed up to emergency departments statewide each year after run ins with dogs.

She added about 20 per cent of all bite victims treated, were children aged up to four,.

"Many of these cases involve young children being bitten by the family dog," she said.

"This is an opportunity to remind parents that any dog will bite, particularly if hurt, threatened or challenged for food."
